Keep Watching: Interview With Fashionista NY Girl

"Eventually all the pieces fall into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moment and know that everything happens for a reason."
Back in my days as an indie editor at FashionIndie, I had the opportunity of meeting fashion blogger Heather Epstein, she is the founder and blogger of Fashionista NY Girl. Still this day, I find inspiration in all that lies within her blog. You don't come across many humble and truly relatable bloggers on the internet these days who you can actually go out and buy the trends they are sporting. Which is just why today, I knew it would be the best way to start off the day! Did I mention you can find some ridiculously delicious Foodie Friday recipes on Fashionista NY too? Try to keep up after the jump!

  • What was your inspiration behind Fashionista NY Girl and when did it begin?
I always wanted Fashionista NY Girl to be a place for women to come and not only feel inspired but feel like they can be fashionable when even on a budget. The idea began a couple years after I graduated from college and found myself working and living in NYC. I needed a new "grown up" wardrobe, but needed it on a budget. The mission of Fashionista NY Girl is to make every woman feel like a fashionista by teaching them the latest trends from the runway to the street, no matter their age or budget.
  • What do you think sets your blog apart from all the rest?
I believe my relatable-ness as well as my realness sets my blog apart. I want to feel like my readers are connected to me and my blog.
  • Best part about living in NYC?
Having everything you need with in your reach. Being able to get up and walk to the grocery store or being able to hop on a train (or cab) after a night out. After going to college in Reading, PA these are the things that I truly missed.
  • Who are your style muses and where do you get style inspiration?
Ever since I started my own fashion blog I have followed a lot more blogger style then celebrity style. My style muses are a collection of bloggers who have an array of taste. I love Liz of Late Afternoon's sense of style. She has a bit of sophistication as well as a little Cali boho feel. Natalie of Natalie Off Duty is another blogger that I admire. She has a style all her own. It's this vintage lower eastside cool girl vibe that I can only dream of pulling off. Thanks to the world of pinterest I have found a lot of style inspiration from there. It's nice to have a place where you can create a little mood board but in virtual space.
  • Aside from blogging what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy food, whether its baking at home or finding a new local place....I just really love eating.
  • Currently your must have items for the perfect summer outfit?
After buying one pair of silky PJ style trousers I need more of them in my closet for this summer. They are perfect to transition into your wardrobe during the work week for a casual summer day or perfect to grab-and-go for a weekend look. I also can't seem to get enough crop tops.
  • Something that your readers don't know about you is:
I'm pretty awkward in front of the camera. When I first started doing outfit posts I felt weird that my fiance (at the time boyfriend) was snapping photos of me. I still feel pretty awkward when people walk by and stare at us. I mean I've gotten over it a little bit but it's still weird to me....Also I take a lot of pictures with sunglasses on b/c either I take pictures after work and I looked dead tired. Or 90% of the time my eyes are closed. I don't know what it is but my eyes are always closed in photos!
  • The most memorable moment in your blogging career has been?
The most memorable moment in my blogging career thus far was being able to be a blogger correspondent for Diet Coke at the Red Dress Collection Fashion Show. It was one of the biggest events I have ever been invited to along with one of the biggest companies I had been invited to work with. Plus, this event is such a huge inspiration to woman. It was def. a night to remember.
  • If you could live in another era when would it be and why?
If I could live in another era it would have to be the punk era. In high school I really got into the punk scene and really listening to those bands from the mid 70s/early 80s. I remember the first time I went to CBGBs it was to see my friend's band play and all I could think about was how historical of a place it was. It was a seedy place that looked like it hadn't been touched since it first opened its doors but it was still pretty spectacular to me. I also love that fashion then wasn't about the latest trends, it was rebelling against. Creating their own sub-culture of fashion trends.
  • Favorite Quote:  "Eventually all the pieces fall into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moment and know that everything happens for a reason." - Sex and the City. I know Sex and the City quote, really? My mom always used to say "Everything happens for a reason" and I still truly believe that. This line from Sex and the City holds true for me, and when things seemingly don't go my way this is something I have to remind myself.
  • Up and coming for your blog:
I just started mixing in a new feature called Foodie Friday to share my love of food and cooking with my readers. In this feature I'm sharing some recipes as well as some local favorites. Working on getting some guest bloggers for this feature as well to share recipes and their local places, so that it has more of community feel then just local to NYC. Also many of readers know I'm getting married soon, I have been sharing some wedding stuff on a feature called Wedding Wednesday but I plan on sharing even more about the DIY projects I worked on for my wedding well as some bridal tips once the "I Dos" are exchanged.
