It's not too often that you come across humble and interesting people all in one day. I had the pleasure of getting to meet Ellie Eckert during Style X while SXSW was going on in Austin, Texas around spring break this year. It was good times we were definitely the youngest ones in the group touring all the fashion there is to see in ATX while blog talking the day away. Ellie is the creator of the NYC style blog City Brewed and is part of the Seventeen Magazine Style Council of 2012. After meeting this talented lady I realized that there needs to be more bloggers out there who take note from City Brewed, she's the sweetest girl with a killer amount of style. If you have yet to fall in love with her blog/her here are about 50 reasons to get to it. There is a lot more to come from City Brewed.
The Basics:
Blog: City Brewed
Age: 21 (as of a week ago!)
Hometown: Palm Harbor, Florida
How would you describe your style in three words? Extremely laid back :)
Favorites:
Favorite Designers to wear: I love Alexander Wang, Helmut Lang, anything basic really. My Florida roots must have contributed to how laid back my style is, because I'm all about wearing comfortable, minimalistic pieces.
Your perfect staple outfit for summer: A pair of cutoff Levis, a light tank, and a pair of heeled ankle booties. It may be summer, but I'm always a fan of ankle boots.
Currently on repeat on your favorite playlist: I'm a huge fan of Sleigh Bells and Angus & Julia Stone. Currently on repeat? End of the Line by Sleigh Bells. So great.
Your favorite moment that you’ve experienced as a blogger to this point: I've had so many unbelievable moments(I still have to pinch myself sometimes), but I think sitting front row at the Ruffian show during NYFW was a pretty great experience. Also the day one of my best friends came over holding the March issue of Seventeen Magazine. When we opened it to see a full page about myself and my blog, we jumped up and down for what was probably a good hour.
Who are your favorite bloggers to follow? I love Purse n' Boots, Natalie off Duty, Oracle Fox, I love Wildfox, and Knight Cat. I always start off my day by catching up with their newest posts.
Favorite style muses: Oh that's easy! I love MK and Ashley Olsen(but really, who doesn't) Kate Bosworth, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and of course a few of my favorite bloggers. They're all so laid back but stylish. When you can look amazing and confident in something so casual, that's my definition of style.
Beauty product you can’t live without: Makeup Forever's HD Foundation. I use it everyday and it's like you're not even wearing anything. It's incredible.
Favorite summer colors to wear: I love browns and mustard yellows. It may be a bit “fall-ish” but I guess it's a step up from wearing black everyday...
Favorite NYC spots: I love Saturdays Surf in Soho. It's easily the best coffee/surf shop I've come across. I also love No Relation Vintage in the East Village for some thrift shopping, Piano's on the Lower East Side, and The Sixth Ward for Sunday brunch.
Bonus:
How did City Brewed start and what is the inspiration behind it all? City Brewed started on what I thought was the coldest day I would ever experience(I was wrong, it got colder). It was snowing, grey, and there was little to no inspiration around me. So I decided to start a blog where I could document New York, Fashion, and things that inspire me.
What is your absolute favorite part about being a blogger? Personally I love meeting other bloggers. It's awesome to connect with people around the world and see how styles change from one place to another.
What’s up and coming for City Brewed? Well City Brewed is going through a bit of a redesign. I originally started my blog to showcase NYC, so I figured, why not do it? There will be posts about my favorite places, interviews with some awesome(stylish) New Yorkers, and of course outfit posts.
Something your readers don’t know about you: Most people don't know that I started riding ATV's when I was eight years old. I used to love spending weekends riding through the woods, mudding, and going camping in different places.
What are your hobbies aside from blogging? Aside from blogging I'm a journalism student and an assistant for Bed Stu footwear. I love writing, photographing, and eating my way through New York.
How would you say social media has influenced/changed your blogging life and what networks can we find City Brewed on? Social Media has enabled me to connect with so many different people and brands. It's crazy to tweet at designers I love and end up creating a relationship with them. You can find me on Twitter(@brewedbyellie), Instagram(@citybrewed) and Pinterest.
What advice do you have for aspiring bloggers? I'd say don't compare yourself to other bloggers, it will just make you crazy. Oh, and don't start a blog just to receive free merchandise. If you're doing it for the wrong reasons you'll never get the most out of it.
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? Five years from now I hope to be working at a company doing some sort of editorial managing(while still blogging for myself, of course) I'll be done with my degree, hopefully living near a beach(California, possibly?!), writing, photographing, and hopefully exploring new areas! Oh, and traveling, I love to travel.
